About the Class Action

ACTIS LAW GROUP is lead counsel in the class action lawsuit that was launched in the Superior Court of Quebec against Lactalis Canada Inc.

The lawsuit alleges the Lactalis falsely and prominently marketed, advertised, promoted, packaged, labelled, sold, and/or represented the Président Unsalted Butter Bar and the Président Salted Butter Bar as being “France’s #1 Butter”, a description that falsely represents to consumers that the ingredients inside the packaging are the same as those contained in the product in France, when in fact, the Président Butter Products’ ingredients and composition are materially different from those in France.

Why Was the Lawsuit Filed?

The Plaintiff alleges that consumers were misled into believing they were purchasing the same high-quality butter associated with the Président brand in France.

According to the lawsuit, the Président Butter Products sold in Canada differ significantly from their French counterparts in several respects, including:

– Quality
– Taste and flavour
– Texture
– Enzymatic content (which may affect digestion)
– Other characteristics associated with traditional French butter

Pricing Allegations

The lawsuit also alleges that the Président Butter Products are sold at a substantial premium compared with similar butter products available in Canadian grocery stores.

According to the allegations, the products are often two to four times more expensive than comparable alternatives while also being sold in smaller package sizes.

Proposed Class

The Plaintiff seeks to represent the following class to which he is a part:

“All persons residing in Canada who have purchased Président Butter Product(s).”

Where are the Products Sold

The Président Butter Products are available at IGA, Metro, Provigo, Adonis, and Walmart (among other retailers).
