Charmin Toilet Paper, Puffs Tissues, and Bounty Paper Towels Deceptive Environmental Claims Class Action

Have you purchased Charmin toilet paper, Puffs facial tissues or Bounty paper towels or napkins?

ACTIS LAW GROUP is lead counsel in a class action lawsuit against Procter & Gamble, the manufacturer, marketer and seller of Charmin toilet paper, Puffs facial tissues and Bounty paper towels or napkins (the “Tissue Products”), alleging that the company intentionally misled consumers about the massive environmental impact of its supply-chain practices and made environmental promises that concealed its widespread deforestation and forest degradation practices.

Procter & Gamble is alleged to source most of the wood pulp for the Tissue Products from the Canadian Boreal Forest, one of the world’s most important biological ecosystems, through harmful logging practices such as clear-cutting and burning (slash-and-burn).

Procter & Gamble is alleged to have engaged in extensive greenwashing practices, including Procter & Gamble’s “Keep Forests as Forests” campaign and the “Protect-Grow-Restore” logo found on its packaging.

Procter & Gamble fills its marketing materials and packaging with eco-friendly buzzwords, vague FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and Rainforest Alliance certifications, and a promise that it “helps to protect, grow and restore trees”. In reality, when Procter & Gamble could no longer use the Rainforest Alliance’s well-known certified frog seal, it instead became one of two founding members of the Rainforest Alliance’s new Forest Allies program, allowing it to use an altered but almost identical seal for three years at a cost of US$250,000 a year. Procter & Gamble also fails to disclose that the Forest Allies program offers no certification services and does not even operate in the boreal forest.

The eco-friendly marketing and promotion of the Tissue Products deliberately targets consumers hoping to make environmentally conscious purchases.

The Class consists of all residents of Quebec who have purchased Charmin Toilet Paper, Puffs Tissues or Bounty Paper Towels/Napkins (the “Tissue Products”).

Actis Law Group believes that Procter & Gamble must be held accountable its for egregious environmental destruction of the largest intact forest in the world and stop hiding its actions behind false and misleading claims of environmental responsibility.
